The Zombie Revolution

Madeleine, 12, Salem, OR

“Well, I’ll be damned!” George Washington exclaimed as he stepped out of the portal he had found in his living quarters.

“Is this really the future of America? Then what in tarnation did I fight for?” he said in an unhappy tone as he looked around the world he stood on, which was in shambles.

Soon after that George heard the sound of sirens. Then a young man ran past him. Then he stopped after he passed George and walked back towards him.

“Dude what are you doing? There's zombies on the way. Can't you hear the sirens?” the man said.

“How dare you talk to me like that, young sir. What is a ‘dude’? I am President George Washington.”

“Wow, dude, what are you on? Whatever it is comes to the base with me, OK?” the man said as he headed toward a boarded-up subway station.

George followed him at a slower pace but then he looked over his shoulder and saw the undead horde.

“Holy…”

“Hurry, get in,” the man said, as he lifted up a board from the subway entrance. George climbed under it as the man covered for George. The man followed soon after. After a long walk down the subway, they came to a light in the dark subway.

George saw the silhouettes of about 20 or 30 people; he wasn’t sure if it was those so-called zombies. But the closer they got he saw that it was alive people, which was a very good thing.

But even when he walked closer, he felt the vulnerability in the room, and it made him sad. It really reminded him of the battles in the war for America when they were low on food and weaponry.

Once he could hear them talking, he knew he had to do something. He moved a shipping crate and stood on it and started a speech:

“By an anonymous summons, an attempt has been made to convene you together; how inconsistent with the rules of propriety, how unmilitary, and how subversive of all order and discipline, let the good sense of the army decide ... As I have ever considered my own military reputation as inseparably connected with that of the army. As my heart has ever expanded with joy, when I have heard its praises, and my indignation has arisen, when the mouth of detraction has been opened against it, it can scarcely be supposed, at this late stage of the war, that I am indifferent to its interest—”

“I didn’t understand anything you said, but it was inspiring, dude in a costume. Let’s kill those zombies!” a young man yelled in the crowd.

After his long speech the people felt inspired and felt like they would be able to bring back America to the normal state together. Then they gathered all their equipment and set out to find the horde of zombies terrorizing the town.

They searched around the town for hours and hours when they heard someone yell to the group.

“Look, it’s the zombies,” a woman said from the front of the search party.

They looked up and saw the silhouettes of the undead rising up from the horizon. They all ran into battle with weapons in hand.

After a day of battle, they emerged victorious. Yes, a few perished, but that made the rest of them fight harder. Then after a huge celebration suddenly the portal reappeared.

“Thank you for fighting along my side, fellow soldiers, but it is time for me to return home,” George said.

As he walked into the portal, everyone cheered for him.

And after that life went back to normal. But those select few who were there will never forget.
