Kate was walking up the street to her house. She had just gotten out of school and was very tired. She was rounding the corner when she saw a poster on one of the power line poles that said: Are You A Dancer? If So, Join Us at Dance Academy for Young Girls! Contact us at danceacademykids@gmail.com for more information.
Kate loved to dance, and she knew right away that she would be signing up for this camp. She brought the poster home and emailed the dance academy right away. They said that she would be joining Wednesday, March 8th.
Oh no! Kate thought. I have school on that day! I can’t skip school!
She knew she had no choice. She told her mom she couldn’t attend school on Wednesday next week and her mom was very upset that Kate had contacted the academy without asking permission. Kate had to go anyway. She told her teacher the situation and her teacher was upset as well.
It’s OK, Kate thought. I’ll only have one meet that day and the rest of the camp is on Saturday.
When she got to camp there were only 2 other girls there. The teacher came out just as Kate arrived. She wore her hair in a tight bun and had a skirt on and a leotard.
“Alright girls, put on your outfits,” the teacher ordered.
“Yes, Miss Rose,” one of the girls answered.
They got their costumes on and Kate thought she looked amazing. She had her hair in a tight bun – so tight it hurt her head! She had a blue leotard on and a poufy skirt. She was 4 foot 10 and the outfit made her look way taller. She was doing ballet, so she put on her ballet shoes.
The second girl, whose name was Bella and was 5 foot 0, had a light pink leotard on and the same poufy skirt as Kate. She wore bright pink lipstick and light pink eyeshadow. Bella would be doing jazz, so she put on her jazz shoes.
Apparently, there were 3 teachers that taught different dance styles. The third girl, named Lauren, wore a light purple leotard with a flat skirt and tights. She wore her hair in 2 French braids. She had light lip gloss on and black mascara. She had tap shoes because she did tap dance. She was 4 foot 7.
“Alright, I’m Miss Rose, and this is Ms. Molly,” Miss Rose said, pointing to a teacher to her right. “And this is Ms. Tina,” she said, pointing to a teacher to her left.
Bella went with Ms. Molly, and Lauren went with Ms. Tina. Kate was with Miss Rose. When they got started Miss Rose taught Kate the basics: first position, second position, plié, and third position. Then they moved on to some stretching. After they stretched, Miss Rose was starting to show her the routine Kate would be working on.
“Forward, back, right, left, center, plié, split, and again!” Miss Rose said. They worked on just that part until the end of class when Kate knew it by heart.
“All right class, next Saturday we meet here again!” Miss Rose said.
“Yes Miss Rose,” Lauren replied. And they did. They met for 5 more Saturdays.
“Alright, girls, that was great!” Ms. Molly said after they finished their routines.
“Remember, we have a recital next weekend on Saturday at 6:30. You are required to be here at 6:00,” Ms. Tina reminded them.
This made Kate excited. She always loved to do recitals. She used to take dance class, but she stopped because her schedule was too tight. When she went to dance, she would do recitals all the time. Kate was also now good friends with Bella and Lauren.
“Are you guys doing anything tonight?” Bella asked.
“No,” Lauren and Kate replied.
“Wanna sleep over at my house?” Bella asked hopefully.
“Sure! I need to text my mom first,” Kate replied.
“I already did, and she said yes,” Lauren said excitedly.
Kate also told her mom about the recital.
The night after the sleepover Kate fell off of her scooter. Her mom had to take her to the doctor's office right away. They said Kate sprained her ankle and it would take a few days to heal.
“Mom, can I still do my recital?” Kate asked.
“I don’t know, Kate. I don’t think so, though,” her mom answered.
“But Mom! I have to! Please?!” Kate pleaded.
It was the day before the recital and Kate’s foot felt better.
“Are you sure?” her mom asked.
“Yes, Mom!” Kate said for the 4th time that day.
The next day Kate got her costume on and was out the door with her mom.
“Honey, you’re sure?” her mom kept asking.
“Mom!”
Kate did her routine just fine, but her ankle did hurt a little. She finished her routine feeling good that she made 2 new friends and got to do a recital.
After that, Kate went to Dance Academy for Young Girls for 4 more years, and then as she grew up, she became a professional dancer with Bella and Lauren by her side. Kate won several dancing medals and trophies. She grew up to be a great dancer and it was all thanks to Dance Academy.
Kate was a very famous dancer when she grew up as well!
